NDSU Photo Youth from across the region will soon learn how to enhance their livestock showmanship and animal care skills through a dynamic new program. A multiday livestock day camp, From Barn to Ring: Developing Skills for Every Species, will be hosted by North Dakota State University Extension – Dickey County on June 2-6. This hands-on training is designed for youth ages eight to 18 enrolled in 4-H livestock projects, including cattle, swine, sheep, goats, rabbits, poultry, dairy and horses.

NDSU Face flies, horn flies and stable flies are the most common and most treated pests on North Dakota livestock operations. Left uncontrolled, these pests can cause significant loss in livestock production. Fortunately, North Dakota State University Extension specialists say that the proper pest management strategy can provide effective control.

NDSU “Livestock losses are often an unfortunate part of wildfires. Prior to any carcass disposal action documentation of loss is critical,” says Mary Keena, North Dakota State University Extension livestock environmental management specialist at the Carrington Research Extension Center. The Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) offers payments to eligible producers for livestock death losses in excess of normal mortality due to adverse weather such as wildfires.
