Stacked in the corner of a room at Fortress H are four plastic boxes containing my CD collection. I spotted them the other day and realised that I hadn't accessed them for probably years. We do still have a CD player but computers no longer come with CD drives, nor do cars, so for some time now I have streamed music. I invested in a smart speaker and my whizzy hearing aids allow me to listen to music via my phone.

When your age has a nought on the end, why does it have to be considered a significant milestone? There’s so much made about hitting the big four 0 and life allegedly beginning. But I remember approaching it with dread, fearing life would go into steep descent.
