Paediatric Horner Syndrome: How much further to investigate?
CASE REPORT Year : 2020 | Volume : 68 | Issue : 11 | Page : 2607-2610 Paediatric Horner Syndrome: How much further to investigate?
MCBA President’s Message: A new focus on listening
Neil J. Rowe I like small town practice. That’s where I started out. Attorneys approach things differently when they know they will be continually working with every other attorney in town throughout their career, and will frequently socialize with them in community settings. In small towns, the bar associations remain focused on convening debate and collaborating on important issues which impact the legal profession.
MCBA President’s Message: The metaignorance of Miranda
Editor’s note: This piece first appeared in the 2016 Law Day special section on May 6. The elemental determination reached by the Supreme Court in Miranda v. Arizona was that the process of in-custody interrogation of persons contains inherently compelling pressures which work to undermine an individual’s will to resist and to compel him to speak where he would not otherwise do so freely.
MCBA President’s Message: Launching our Veteran’s Committee
Neil J. Rowe I’d like to thank our President’s Commission on Access to Justice (PCAJ), and specifically Lou Prieto, Hon. Patricia Marks, Lori O’Brien, and Chair Diana Irizarry for their effort in advancing the recommendations of the 2013 MCBA Veterans Legal Services Task Force. At its March 15 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the formation of a Veteran’s Committee to partner with LawNY in a two-year project to implement the proposals identified by the Task Force.
MCBA President’s Message: The role of the Bar Association in public policy
Neil J. Rowe I’d like to examine the function of bar associations in the legal profession, as well as the ways in which the MCBA has molded its own role. In our nation’s formative years, lawyers often practiced part-time in combination with another occupation.
MCBA president’s message: The evaluatory process
I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you the process the MCBA is undertaking to recruit and evaluate candidates for our next executive director. Over my career I have read thousands of resumes and led hundreds of individual and team interviews. Over time, they became quite routinized, and it has been years since I ...
MCBA President’s Message: Looking forward to the New Year
I like the start of the New Year. It provides an occasion to rekindle the hopes, expectations, and resolve within the MCBA. The ushering in of the New Year also creates an opportunity to reflect upon some of the happenings in our legal community in 2015. Health and Well Being Helpline: The collaboration between the MCBA and Tree of Hope Counseling starts the New Year with a confidential helpline dedicated exclusively to providing help and services to Monroe County attorneys.
MCBA President’s Message: Re-introducing you to our management team
Neil J. Rowe I’d like to re-introduce you to our Bar Association Managers: Kathy Fico, Liz Novak Henderson and Louise Spinelli. Kathy Fico has been appointed by the board as Interim Executive Manager, and will serve as the point person for the MCBA staff during the next several months, as we search for a new executive director. Kathy is the MCBA’s longest tenured employee, having started with the association in 1994.
MCBA President’s Message: Bar offers services to enhance the legal profession
Neil J. Rowe I like our 2014 – 2016 vision statement: “The Monroe County Bar is indispensable to its members and the justice system through the delivery of cutting edge services essential to their success.” This vision was jointly adopted by the boards of both the Bar Association and its Foundation in February 2014 after a two-year strategic planning process, facilitated by staff from the American Bar Association.
