Letter: Lincoln Fillmore hates Utahns’ ability to challenge him and the Legislature
Open letter to Lincoln Fillmore: I thought I would spare you the personal email that I would normally send on Amendment B. Of course you are the sponsor! Your reasoning for wanting to raise the threshold for passing Initiatives by the Citizens is flimsy. Never have I seen our citizens want to pass a tax increase. Your reasoning is, again, a mask for the real reason for this amendment. You know better, and you hate our ability to challenge you and this Legislature.
It Just Works by Neil West
Skip to main content Imprint: Macmillan Business 'A must-read for business leaders seeking to innovate and communicate clearly and effectively' - Publishers Weekly Simplicity is Apple’s competitive advantage. It Just Works shows you how to make it yours. What is the secret ingredient in every billion-dollar product, from the iPhone to ChatGPT to Lego? Simplicity. Humans love simplicity; it’s a hard-wired obsession. Apple has built one of the world's most valuable companies on this single principle.
Letter: Support for Prop. 140
I support proposition 140 for many reasons. The current Arizona primary process limits the voters in two major ways. First, independents must secure six times the number of signatures to even get on the ballot compared to Republican or Democratic candidates. The second issue is the number of people who participate in the primary is under 30%! Hence, 15% of the electorate may select the candidate which is the antithesis of a participatory democracy.
Letter: Support Prop 496
I wanted to add my support to Steve Lynn’s op-ed in the Daily Star. The upcoming TUSD bond prop 496 is very important to support the physical structures and update the technology of the district. If we want to continue to have a vibrant community we need well trained people. The arts including music are very closely aligned with math, physics and technology. Last week I attended an afternoon concert by the Pueblo High School Mariachi Aztlán.
What to make of the big difference in gas prices in Utah and Wyoming?
Two weeks ago I purchased gas in Casper, Wyoming. I paid $3.39/gal for regular gas ... everywhere in town.
Letter: Give Credit to the voters
Give credit to the voters! All the turmoil about the 2020 Arizona election cycle prompted me to look at the actual 2020 state canvass data. It appears that voters split their tickets to vote for whom they thought was the better candidate! U. S. Senate candidate Rep. Martha McSally garnered 1,637,661 versus Trump getting 1,661,686 votes. An undervote of 24K! Conversely, Mark Kelly gathered 1,716,467 which is over 44,000 more than Biden received in Arizona, 1,672,143.
Letter: Airports, please respect your sleeping neighbors
This is an open letter to the folks at the Salt Lake Airport. I’ve lived at my South Jordan address for 20 years now. I was told I would be in the flight pattern for approaching aircraft. Until the last couple of years, the airport administration has been sensitive to the neighborhood calls to help with the noise of the aircraft at hours when we would love to be sleeping.
Letter: Hatch already has plenty of money
To former Sen. Orrin Hatch: I am reading an article in The Salt Lake Tribune that you want $2 million from taxpayers to pay for your office building and center for your history. May I suggest that, instead of taking tax dollars from us, that you use the millions of dollars you received from Big Pharma for the past 10 or 15 years to pay for the darn thing? You have taken way more money than you will ever again need.
Letter: Act on prescription drug bills, Sen. Hatch
Sen. Hatch, as one of your Utah constituents, I am writing to urge you to call for votes on bills in the Senate Finance Committee that would address the high prices that Americans are paying for prescription drugs. The National Retiree Legislative Network (NRLN) has informed me there are at least three bills in your committee worthy of having a vote. These are: S.
