Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Excluding the high school stuff, I interned at the radio station KNOR one summer after graduation.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

As a child, my cousins and I made up our own newspaper detailing the events of the summer using my parents' old typewriter.

How is social media changing news?

It's changed how money is attached to the consumption of news, which has made it more difficult to get money to fund the gathering of it.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Clark Kent.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

These days, e-mail is probably best.

Why did you become a journalist?

I wanted to share positive and creative aspects of my community and the world with others.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was the editor of the high school paper and also part of the school's broadcast news crew.

What's your favorite drink?

An "Arnold Palmer" -- half tea, half lemonade.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

At my comic-book store, Speeding Bullet Comics.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Athletic

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I hope at this point people take comic books seriously as art, or at least some of them, but that has in the past been a misperception.
