The Long Road to Loveland
Throughout the year the ATRA Technical seminar tour visits 25 cities in regions across the US and Canada. Most of the time we fly to these destinations, but this story is about one seminar that we drove from the home office of China Grove, TX. to Loveland, CO. to host the Denver Technical seminar. A 30-hour, 2080 mile round-trip that took us through Texas, into northern New Mexico and then into Colorado.
Adaptive Precision – Part 2: When Adaptation Becomes Synchronization – Why the 948TE/9HP48 Learns Differently Than the ZF 8HP
This is a follow-up to my last article “Adaptive Precision: How ZF’s 8 Speed Refined the CVI Concept” Gears Magazine, May 2026.” It would be nice to use the same explanation of how the 9HP adapts and the process to achieve that adaptation as the 8HP, but while these two transmissions may share the same ZF DNA, they do not “think” the same way. And by “think”, I mean how that adaptation is dictated by design. Each transmission has unique engineering problems to solve.
Adaptive Precision: How ZF’s 8-Speed Refined The CVI Concept
Chrysler taught its transmissions how to learn. ZF made sure they understood what they were learning — and why. When the 845RE and 8HP70 were introduced in the Ram lineup in 2013, they brought an 8-speed transmission with a new clutch-apply adaptation. Back in the A604 days, clutch control was simple by today’s standards; apply rate was managed through solenoid modulation, and clutch release rate was handled by separator plate orifices.

Huskers & Lincoln natives help to put an end to sex trafficking in Lincoln
Gov. Jim Pillen was among the many students and members of the Lincoln community that spent their Saturday morning walking from the Nebraska Union to the State Capitol and back in an effort to raise awareness about sex trafficking in Nebraska. Walk for Freedom is an annual event organized by the I’ve Got A Name foundation. Their mission is to put an end to sex trafficking in Nebraska by generating awareness of the problem and taking action against it, according to their website.
How to avoid regretting your decision to move off campus
With many students on the hunt for off-campus housing in the upcoming semester, The Daily Nebraskan asked what students should watch out for when looking for an off-campus residence. Lucas Novotny, executive director of Housing and Dining Services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, offered one piece of advice he gives students looking to move off campus. “Make it a point to visit properties in person to get a firsthand look at their condition and suitability for your needs,” Novotny said.

As part of our Curious Cornhuskers initiative, a reader asked The Daily Nebraskan, “Why weren’t entrances to University buildings locked during the incident on East Campus on Feb. 15th?” Outside of timed mechanisms that lock doors across campus each night, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln does not currently have a system in place that allows entrances to buildings on campus to be locked remotely, said UNLPD Sgt. Chadd Stutheit.
Reprogramming: When should I program?
With great power comes great responsibility, as Uncle Ben told Peter Parker. The ability to reprogram a vehicle comes with responsibilities, such as ensuring the options the vehicle is equipped with are selected before programming and knowing when a reprogram can correct a problem or will not have any effect. Understanding the application is also important. Programming a module and selecting the wrong options can cause immediate or future problems.
Programming in 2023
If you’re an experienced reprograming tech or new to it, there’re a lot of changes to the programming scene. Changes in OEM software, OEM purchasing options and procedures, and hardware requirements have occurred over the last couple of years. As with any technology, as it progresses, so does the hardware and tools needed to run it. One universal truth about computer systems is that if components get more powerful, a programmer will take advantage of that.
Putting the Focus on the Transit Connect
An early model Ford Transit Connect comes in with the check engine light on. Perhaps it was recently purchased, and the new owner got it for a low price because the transmission keeps going into failsafe. Checking codes, you may find P0732 (2nd gear ratio) and/or P0733 (3rd gear ratio). You check the fluid, and it looks pretty fresh. Maybe the seller has changed the fluid (something we’ve seen since the early days of automatic transmissions, new fluid, and, if equipped, a new modulator too).

November 11, 1955 - October 23, 2020 With profound sadness we announce the passing of Geneva Stroud Putman, loving and devoted mother, wife, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on October 23, 2020. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Lipan, Texas. She was in her 64th year. Born in Smyrna, Tennessee, November 11, 1955, raised in Mineral Wells, Texas, Geneva grew up the youngest of four.

Estimating stand-level economic impacts of black bear damage to intensively managed forests
Black bears (Ursus americanus Pallas, 1780) peel conifers in early spring to forage on energy-rich vascular tissues, resulting in damage to timber stands. The objective of our study was to develop and demonstrate a conceptual framework and methods for estimating stand-level volume and economic losses from black bear damage. We created tree lists from surveys of healthy and bear-damaged trees in timber stands of western Washington and Oregon.
Deputies investigating after body found in McClain County
Deputies are investigating after a body was found Saturday in McClain County, officials said. Officers received a call around noon near the intersection of Council Road and Brookwood Drive after the body was found in the area, officials said. Although authorities are waiting for a positive identification and a cause of death from medical examiner's office, Sheriff's Office officials said they believe the body is that of a person reported missing about two weeks ago.

Military Plane Crash Kills At Least 16 In Mississippi A Marine Corps refueling tanker crashed Monday afternoon in a field 85 miles north of Jackson, Miss., killing at least 16 people. LeFlore County Emergency Management Director Fred Randle told the Associated Press that 16 bodies had been recovered from the crash site in a soy bean field in Itta Bena, Miss. Sherrif Ricky Banks told the AP the search is continuing in a debris field that stretches for miles.
OSBI investigates overnight homicide in Poteau
POTEAU, Okla. — Officers are investigating an overnight homicide in Poteau, officials said. Poteau police and agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene of a homicide near the 600 block of Page Street. A suspect has been arrested and booked into the the LeFlore County Jail.OSBI agents will collect evidence and provide a written report for the district attorney.
