What was your first job as a journalist?

Before college: I worked for a startup alt weekly ran by a mobster. After: Out Front, the fourth oldest LGBT news org in the world.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I only wish they made 'em with spellcheck.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

I've given up the right to vote so that I can be a representative for my readers when they can not be for themselves.

Google apps, Twitter, Excel, but nothing beats a reporter's notebook.

Why did you become a journalist?

Corny, but true: to seek truth.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did. And mostly everything. The rest of the staff was pretty lazy.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Three years of covering the Colorado Civil Union Act — from start to finish.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Never stop asking questions.
