What’s the most fun you've had driving the speed limit?
Is more power always more better? Perhaps, but as those power figures rise, so do the chances you're going to going to break the law behind the wheel. Yes, there are events in which you can stretch those high-horsepower legs at a track, but there’s something to be said about being able to have fun in a car within the law. So, what’s the most fun you’ve had not breaking the speed limit?
Name a car that you wouldn’t take-even if someone paid you
Sometimes an unreliable/poorly built/all-around-bad car can be easier to live with if the price is low enough–or can be had for free. But is there a car that’s so terrible that you wouldn’t take, even if someone paid you to take it? I would let someone pay me to take a Medallion provided it's a manual transmission. From what I recall it's one of the NG series gearboxes, so somewhat desirable in the Lotus Europa crowds.
Have any driving tips for people visiting your hometown?
In the same way that there are tips for improving lap times at certain tracks, what are some tips that everyone should know before they visit your hometown? Perhaps there’s a stretch of highway that should be avoided at all cost, or maybe there are a few stoplights that just had some cameras installed. Whatever the case is, what should we know before we drive in your neck of the woods? My top driving tip for visiting Central Florida? Don't.
Time for a mask thread?
1 2 First, if you don't do masks that's fine. Keep it to yourself. Not here to discover your views. But it looks like they will be around for a while so I am ready to up my game a little from the glovebox full of single use Chinese ones that businesses hand out. I see people with very comfortable looking units with some framework and Velcro straps and that sort of thing. I don't know where they get those but I'm sure someone does. Or tell me what works for you.
do-giant-aftermarket-driving-lamps-make-everything-better | News | Grassroots Motorsports
Was it all about better lighting? Sure, especially if you lived in rural Vermont or on the Dark Side of the Moon. Or if you were one of the few actual rally competitors out there. Perhaps, though, it was also something imprinted upon us via the silver screen. More fodder for thought: Why all this chatter about giant, aftermarket lamps? Let’s just say that we have been noodling a few ideas. For those doing the same, they’re still available.
Show us something that you MADE| Grassroots Motorsports forum |
This forum needs a place to show off small parts and projects that may not deserve an entire thread of their own. Let's see all of your custom/bespoke car parts, workshop tools, etc! I'll start: Here are some offset lower ball joint mounts I made for my s2000. They're made of 15-5 PH stainless steel so I can leave them raw and shiny Now let's see your creations! Well you set the bar too high. I’ve got nothing to compete with that.
How do you organize your sockets?| Grassroots Motorsports forum |
I recently picked up a new a toolbox for home and I've been trying to set it up in the most logical and organized way possible. I've hit a big stumble with my fairly large collection of sockets. I've taken an inventory of my sockets and I have 18-1/4" drive sockets (not that many, I don't use 1/4" that often), 69-3/8" sockets, and 75-1/2" drive sockets (almost all of these are impacts). These are all in the obvious assortment of metric and SAE as well as some hex and torx sockets.
Did I or didn't I?| Off-Topic Discussion forum |
I know for a fact I turned the crock pot to low this morning. As the day progresses I'm less sure that I actually plugged it in... Place your bets boys and girls! Did I or didn't I plug the crock pot in this morning? mtn MegaDork 5/7/18 12:52 p.m. Didn't, but not pizza... It is grilled cheese tonight. RossD MegaDork 5/7/18 12:55 p.m. On low, but unplugged for $1. STM317 SuperDork 5/7/18 1:00 p.m. Just to be contrarian, I'll say that it's both plugged in, and turned on.

#TBT | In autocrossing, sometimes different is really good
In most parts of the country, E Street Prepared is a contest between the Camaro and Mustang–a true pony car shootout between two models that have duelling for more than a quarter of a century. But things are a bit different in the Atalnta Region of the SCCA, where Patrick E. Evans and his Mercedes-Benz 280SE are a regular sight on the ESP grid. Patrick acquired his Benz a year and a half ago with a blown engine for only $975.
So You've Drilled Through Your Own Hand
My hands are solid scar material, my scars have scars. 45+ years of abuse - stupidity. My latest was a close encounter with a nail gun, the nail turned and nicked my thumb that was holding the piece in place. I was very lucky, the selector switch was on rock and roll and the next two nails were unintentionally delivered when the gun bucked, missed my hand.
See You at Daytona
By David S. Wallens Jan 14, 2016 | Posted in Columns | From the Feb. 2016 issue | Never miss an article Welcome to Daytona Beach, our hometown. We might not have a decent local music scene, but our backyard does feature one of the world’s most famous race tracks: Daytona International Speedway. In fact, we’re probably a bit jaded by its presence, since we pass by often (it’s next to our local Home Depot, and across the street from Target).
