If you’ve ever worked with engineers, you’ll have heard them talk about microservices. A few years ago, you might’ve been left with the impression that they were ‘The Answer’ - the thing that would solve all your problems. ‘The Answer’ used to be SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture). There’s always ‘The Answer’. It just keeps changing. This is partly because the enabling technology continues to advance rapidly and partly because engineers just love starting again.

There is risk in everything. There is risk in getting out of bed in the morning. There is risk in *not* getting out of bed in the morning. There’s risk in leaving the house these days, particularly with C19 (which, if you’re a Londoner, might be confused with a particularly treacherous cycle route). But this is not a(nother) take on Coronavirus. If you’re releasing software in a bank, you’re not supposed to take risks.

People who enjoy writing code don't, typically, enjoy spending time in meetings. In a small tech-focused company, you likely stand a better chance of keeping your hands on the keyboard. However, if you're in a large organisation, you'll eventually find yourself in a quandary. Your team is only a small part of the machine, and taking promotion means you're going to be spending most of your time talking to other parts of the organisation.
