A 26-year-old man was told by a judge that he is one of a breed of young men whose attitude to women needs to be changed. Kyle Dunn was jailed for two and half years at Exeter Crown Court for the intentional strangulation and assault by beating of a woman in April this year. Dunn, of the Maidendown Caravan Park at Burlescombe, was told by Judge Stephen Climie that if young men want to assault women then they need to go to prison.

Devon man sentenced for sending 'explicitly racist' message to Labour MP Dawn Butler

A 49-year-old Devon man sent a black Labour MP a grossly offensive message on X using 'explicitly racist language with hateful rhetoric'. Daniel Thornton, of Brixham, admitted sending the communication from Plymouth in January 2025 to Dawn Butler, the 56-year-old Labour MP for Brent East when he appeared at Exeter magistrates court. Defence lawyer John Smethurst said Thornton used 'appalling language' which was 'entirely offensive and unjustified'.
