Three Democrats are set to face off in the primary election for Michigan’s District 2 congressional seat on Aug. 4. Ben Ambrose, Jamie Hill and Clyde Welford are vying to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, who is running for reelection as the Republican Party’s only candidate on ballots for the race. The winner of the Democratic primary will go on to face Moolenaar in the general election on Nov. 3.

BAY CITY, MI – With five candidates vying for the seat, the August primary race for Bay City Commission’s Fifth Ward is one of Bay County’s most contested upcoming elections. Incumbent Mark T. Zanotti faces primary challengers Matt Sous, Kelsi Myers, Matt Walraven and Kimberley Urban. The two candidates who receive the most votes in the primary will advance to the general election for the seat in November.

SAGINAW, MI – Several Juneteenth events are set to take place in Saginaw this week as communities across the United States celebrate the federal holiday. Observed annually on June 19, the holiday celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. On the same day in 1865, Union troops enforced emancipation in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after then U.S. President Abraham Lincoln issued The Emancipation Proclamation and just months before the passage of the 13th Amendment.
