The DPC recently launched an inquiry into X, formerly known as Twitter, over the processing of personal data from EU/EEA users on the social media platform. This investigation focuses on the use of publicly accessible posts to train generation AI models, specifically the Grok Large Language Models (LLMS) developed by xAI, a company owned by X owner Elon Musk.

Out-Law reported last summer that the CCPC, Ireland’s competition authority, would be handed an important role under the new regime. Legislation has now been implemented in Ireland to designate the CCPC as its competent authority under the DGA.

The decision followed an inquiry launched by the DPC after the French Data Protection Authority had submitted an initial complaint from a French non-profit organisation filed in August 2018. The DPC led the investigation in its role as the lead supervisory authority for LinkedIn, as LinkedIn’s EU business operations are headquartered in Ireland.
