Hay historias que no deberían contarse en un restaurante. Y creo que la base real que originó Una fábula sueca es una de ellas. Durante un tiempo, varias personas de un círculo cercano insistieron en que debía conocerla. «Te interesa, tú escribes», me decían. Pensé que sería una más, una curiosidad de las que la gente siente la necesidad de compartir. Pero un mediodía de finales de agosto coincidí en un restaurante con un par de comensales que la habían vivido en primera persona.

We demonstrate experimentally that, applying optimal protocols that drive the system between two equilibrium states characterized by a free energy difference ΔF, we can maximize the probability of performing the transition between the two states with a work W smaller than ΔF. The second law holds only on average, resulting in the inequality ⟨W⟩≥ΔF. The experiment is performed using an underdamped oscillator evolving in a double-well potential.
