What was your first job as a journalist?
After working for several media companies in marketing, audience development & circ./fulfillment roles I became a news reporter in 2019.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Oh yes. Manual and selectrics.
How is social media changing news?
Dilution.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means you are courageous and everyone's life matters.

Why did you become a journalist?
Love of information, love of reading, love of learning from interesting people
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Sadly, there was not one.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Three series: people in recovery, raising awareness of Down Syndrome & a 5-month series on high school seniors getting through COVID in 2021.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Focus on topics that are meaningful to you.

Self promotion from a parent living vicariously through their kid.

Sleepy time tea

Reading, spinning yarn, knitting, exploring nature

Locals - DownEast, Portland, etc.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That small communities are not full of interesting/inspiring people.
