Mindy Short, a teacher at Sumiton Christian School, was recently named the Class AA Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Elementary Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made before the close of the 2025-26 school year. "Mrs. Short’s classroom is a place where learning comes alive — through creativity, hands-on experiences, and meaningful reflection," the school shared via Facebook.

America's 250th anniversary celebrated in Jasper

A patriotic celebration was held in Jasper last week to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. The City of Jasper, Jasper Main Street, the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County and the Walker County Arts Alliance came together on Thursday, June 11, to host the community event named "Murals, Mules & Made in America," which included memorable performances, the planting of a unity tree to be enjoyed for years to come and the beginnings of a lasting community project.

Corner man honored as 'Father of the Year' on the 'Tamron Hall Show'

One area father got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with his wife and children ahead of Father's Day this year. Insurance agent Devin Vaughn, of Corner, said it all started when his wife, Casey, shared a video on TikTok a few months ago. Vaughn is the father of two girls: Layton, 6, and Ryan, 3. Vaughn wanted to do something fun with his girls one evening, so he put Ryan on his shoulders, turned on the television to stream a video of a running horse, and his wife, Casey, started filming.
