What to target and how to intervene in CVD patients with diabetes Glycaemic control A HbA1c target for most adults with T2DM is less than 7.0% (<53 mmol/mol).5 However, more stringent HbA1c goals of less than 6.5% (48 mmol/mol) may be suggested on a personalised basis if this can be achieved without significant hypoglycaemia or other adverse effects of treatment. Less stringent HbA1c goals of less than 8.0% (64 mmol/mol) or less than 9.0% (75 mmol/mol) may be adequate for the elderly.
