Abstract This study evaluates heavy metal contamination in fish and its associated health risks, focusing on the implications for global public health. Fish samples were analyzed using advanced techniques, including Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) with a hydride generator for arsenic, and a mercury analyzer.

1 INTRODUCTION In Ghana and generally in sub-Saharan Africa, malaria continues to cause a significant number of morbidity1 and mortality2 especially in children.3 Children, particularly, under 15 years of age are disproportionately affected by malaria,4 although when segregated by age, children below 5 years of age suffer the most from malaria in Ghana5-7 and elsewhere.8-10 There are varied prevalence rates of malaria in Ghana, among all age groups.

Abstract Foodborne diseases (FBDs) are a major public health concern, especially in Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries, such as Ghana, where poor food handling practices (FHPs) are prevalent. To estimate the pooled proportion of good FHPs and the associated factors among Ghanaian food handlers, this systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to aid scholars, practitioners and policymakers in devising FBD-preventable interventions.
