Young disabled people have reacted angrily to the first significant changes to the Motability scheme made since it was launched nearly 50 years ago. Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in the Budget that tax will be charged on the insurance included in a Motability lease, and VAT added to the advanced payments put down on higher-value cars.

By looking at operations cancelled not only “on the day”, but also in the three days before, the BBC East Health Team were able to highlight tens of thousands of cancelled operations not being officially counted.
