Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote for a start up football (soccer) magazine called ThreeAndIn. I don't think it exists anymore.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No! I can say with full certainty that I have never used a typewriter.

How is social media changing news?

Potentially for the worst. "Fake news" is a major issue and social media kingpins need to do more.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To tell the truth and provide readers with the facts.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

As my portfolio shows, I write about a number of topics. Pitch me anything and I'll find a way to write something.

What's your favorite social network?

I know the cool kids prefer Instagram, but I still think Facebook is the best one.

Who do you wish followed you?

John Cena.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

We never had a high school newspaper! Sad, but true. If there was one, I would have absolutely written for it.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I once wrote a series of articles on the career of WWE legend, The Undertaker. It was over 15,000 words long.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

I would advise them to work hard and, at least when starting, write for as many publications as possible. It helps to build your name.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time, really. I'll always get around to it when I have time.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Down by the river or at a restaurant with my wife.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I mostly read news sources, like The Guardian or The Independent. I also love The Athletic.
