It is perhaps a bold statement to claim that a contemporary political party is a greater threat to Welsh history than everything which happened between Henry VIII in the 16th century and the present-day. It is, however, a statement backed up by years of empirical evidence. It takes some doing for a modern political party to be comparable to Henry VIII in terms of the scope for damage to Welsh history, culture and identity, and yet here we are in 2026.

Monnow Bridge of Monmouth

It was on 15 March in 2004 when a second bridge opened in Trefynwy (Monmouth), allowing Pont Trefynwy (Monnow Bridge) to become pedestrianised. Pont Trefynwy dates to 1272 AD, with the gate coming around two-three decades later. The bridge is believed to have replaced a much older (and certainly wooden-made) bridge. A fun fact about Pont Trefynwy is that it is the only remaining fortified river bridge in Great Britain that still has its gate tower standing on the bridge.

Henrhyd Waterfall

Did you know that Sgwd Henrhyd (Henrhyd Waterfall), near Coelbren in Bannau Brycheiniog, was the scene of the Batcave from the Batman film The Dark Knight Rises? This is one of the many instances of Welsh natural beauty being used in a Hollywood blockbuster.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote for a start up football (soccer) magazine called ThreeAndIn. I don't think it exists anymore.

No! I can say with full certainty that I have never used a typewriter.

How is social media changing news?

Potentially for the worst. "Fake news" is a major issue and social media kingpins need to do more.
