Derivative survival analyses: Analysis methods to derive survival outcomes for the remainder patient cohort without individual patient data
Highlights • RCTs often do not release specific survival data for subgroups with inferior outcomes • This article presents “derivative survival analyses” for the remainder subgroup (B) • The methods utilize published data from overall (A+B) and favorable subgroup (A) • 2 renal cell carcinoma and 2 urothelial carcinoma trials are used for demonstration Summary It is not uncommon for industry-sponsored randomized controlled trials to publish survival curves/data for the overall patient...
Considerations in Meta-Analysis of Immunotherapy for Advanced Cancers Other Than Melanoma
Considerations in Meta-Analysis of Immunotherapy for Advanced Cancers Other Than Melanoma To the Editor Serritella and Shenoy1 conducted an interesting meta-analysis to assess the relative efficacy of nivolumab plus ipilimumab vs nivolumab for the treatment of advanced cancers other than melanoma.

Re: Targeting Renal Cell Carcinoma with a HIF-2 Antagonist
Chen W, Hill H, Christie A, et alNature 2016;539:112–7Experts’ summary:In one of the most promising translational research studies in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) in recent times, Chen et al demonstrated that the selective HIF-2 antagonist PT2399 inhibited tumorigenesis in 56% (10/18) of ccRCC tumor grafts (patient-derived xenografts). PT2399 was significantly more active against ccRCC than sunitinib, the current first-line standard of care in metastatic/unresectable ccRCC.
