Abstract Limited evidence suggests men with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) experience worse outcomes than women. The aims of this study were to assess sex-related differences in outcomes in PBC, and to determine whether differences were more specific to PBC than other cirrhosis aetiologies. This study conducted at Charité Berlin analysed inpatient admissions from 2011 to 2022 with PBC. The primary outcome was a composite of inpatient mortality or liver transplant.

1 Introduction As a critical endpoint of liver disease, cirrhosis represents a significant clinical and public health challenge, as it continues to pose high rates of morbidity and mortality worldwide [1-4]. In Europe, the prevalence, causes and complications of liver disease are undergoing changes secondary to healthcare interventions, lifestyle changes and demographic shifts [1, 5].
