Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular disease with manifestations of scoliosis, pulmonary function decline, and, uniquely, collapse of the ribs. Methods to quantify rib deformity and its impact on pulmonary function are sparse. The authors propose new radiographic measurements to quantify the aspect of SMA known as collapsing parasol deformity and correlate these measurements with pulmonary function.
