Nishi Patel’s Biography
Dr. Nishi Patel, M.D., is a leading figure in the evolving field of cardiovascular medicine, blending frontline patient care with visionary leadership in telehealth and medical education. Based at WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel specializes in advanced heart failure, cardiac critical care, and cardiac imaging, serving some of the most complex and vulnerable patient populations. As the National Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Physicians/SOC Telemedicine, he provides expert cardiac diagnostics and consultation to rural hospitals, helping to bridge the nationwide gap in specialty care.
Dr. Patel’s academic background laid a strong foundation for his career. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Drexel University College of Arts & Sciences in 2009, followed by a medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2013. He continued with an internship and residency at Hahnemann University Hospital, then completed highly competitive fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He now holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, and Nuclear Cardiology.
At WellSpan York Hospital, Dr. Patel has spearheaded the implementation of advanced therapies, including ECMO, LVAD, and Impella, to treat critically ill patients with heart failure. His efforts have led to the development of a comprehensive heart failure center, ensuring that patients in central Pennsylvania have access to lifesaving treatments without having to leave their communities. Dr. Patel is also advancing care for survivors of cardiogenic shock through a new clinic that supports both physical recovery and emotional well-being. His use of remote monitoring technology and commitment to preventive medicine reflect his holistic, patient-centered philosophy.
Nationally, Dr. Patel’s role as the National Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging at Access Telecare has made expert cardiac imaging accessible to hospitals in even the most remote locations. His initiatives enable community hospitals to offer advanced echocardiography and cardiac CT services, improving early diagnosis and quality of care while reducing unnecessary patient transfers.
As an active researcher, Dr. Patel has made significant contributions to studies in advanced heart failure therapies, cardiac transplant outcomes, and molecular cardiology. He was recently awarded the Zoll Foundation Research Grant for precision medicine research in the field of sudden cardiac arrest. As Editor-in-Chief for Cardiology and Cardiac CT at StatPearls and a peer reviewer for leading journals, he is deeply involved in shaping the next generation of cardiovascular knowledge.
Beyond the hospital, Nishi Patel is a passionate educator and mentor, recognized for his teaching and advocacy on behalf of medical students and residents. He is also involved in charitable work, supporting organizations such as the American Heart Association. In his free time, Dr. Patel enjoys practicing martial arts and engaging in outdoor adventures, embodying a balance of physical activity and lifelong wellness.
