Just under 6 million tons of grapes were grown commercially in the United States in 2022 (NASS 2023), mainly comprised of numerous varieties of the winegrape, Vitis vinifera L. (Vitales: Vitaceae), which is also used in raisin and oil production. Approximately 25% of the total yield consists of varieties of species such as Vitis labrusca L. and Vitis rotundifolia Michx.

Lycorma delicatula White (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae), commonly called spotted lanternfly, is an invasive polyphagous fulgorid that was first detected in the United States in Berks County, PA in 2014 (Barringer et al. 2015, Dara et al. 2015). Despite concerted efforts from agricultural departments and wide public outreach, this pest continues to spread to new regions (Urban 2020, Urban et al. 2021, StopSLF 2023).
