Transferrin saturation At baseline, observed TSAT levels were generally low, with a % TSAT of 48.0 ± 19.2 in the deferiprone group and 43.4 ± 23.8 in the placebo group; a portion of patients were above the TSAT threshold: 25% (n = 8) in the deferiprone group and 19% (n = 6) in the placebo group (Figure 1C). Deferiprone-treated patients showed higher TSAT levels and reached the TSAT threshold (defined as ≥ 60% TSAT) faster, indicating the ability of deferiprone to shuttle iron to transferrin.
