The UK Packaging Pact is officially underway with more than 100 businesses and associations pledging to reduce waste, lower emissions, and integrate packaging into a circular economy.

A UK-based materials innovation company has secured a £100,000 ($135,000) grant from Innovate UK to accelerate the development of scalable bioplastics. Natural Negative, located in Brighton, East Sussex, will use the funding to advance its work in making its bioplastics viable within existing production environments. While bio-based materials have advanced significantly in recent years, the manufacturing systems required to process them have not kept pace, the company claimed.

Klöckner Pentaplast (KP) has responded to customer demand by unveiling its largest and most rigid tray to date. Part of the company’s Hotpacs range, the HP3 is designed for larger food-to-go portions that, according to KP, have until now stretched existing formats to their limits. Manufactured in the UK, KP claims the HP3 supports operators seeking locally made, reliable packaging formats.
