Magnetic Seizure Therapy vs Electroconvulsive Therapy for Major Depressive Episode—Reply In Reply We appreciate the opportunity to respond to the letter by McCall et al and to clarify important aspects of our study1 recently published in JAMA Psychiatry. McCall et al called into question the efficacy of the electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) administered in our study. We administered 6 times seizure threshold right unilateral ultrabrief pulse ECT (6 × ST RUL UB ECT).

Key Points Question Is magnetic seizure therapy (MST) as effective as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in patients with major depressive episode? Findings In this randomized clinical trial including 73 patients, assessments of antidepressant response showed significantly decreased Hamilton Depression Rating Scale scores with treatment with either MST or ECT, with no significant difference in response or remission rates.
