Changes in the prognosis of CADASIL over time: a 23-year study in 555 individuals

Discussion Our results, from a cohort of CADASIL subjects prospectively recruited over a 23-year period, show a marked improvement in the clinical phenotype with increasing age at the onset of the first stroke and dementia. We have demonstrated that a number of factors, including smoking and the location of the mutation, affect the disease severity, but neither fully explained the reduction in disease severity observed in our cohort.
