Abstract Within the cortico-basal ganglia network, the volume and functional connectivity (FC) of the globus pallidus (GP) are altered in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, with GP enlargement being relatively specific to schizophrenia compared to other disorders. However, little is known about alterations in its two major segments, externus (GPe) and internus (GPi), in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.

New Results doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2023.02.17.528919 Abstract Recent advances in genetic neuromodulation technology have enabled circuit-specific interventions in nonhuman primates (NHPs), thereby revealing the causal functions of specific neural circuits. Going forward, an important step is to use these findings to better understand neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders in humans, in which alterations in functional connectivity between brain regions are demonstrated.
