On September 7, Algerians headed to the polls for an early presidential election that revealed deep apathy and a potential risk to stability in Africa’s territorially largest nation. Algeria’s politico-military ruling elite, known as ‘Le Pouvoir,’ apparently hoped that the election would be successful in mobilizing large crowds for incumbent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and securing five more years of stability.

Last May, student groups all over the UK created encampments to pressure their institutions to end ties with and divest from arms manufacturers and companies complicit in Israel's apartheid regime and genocide. Following more than a month of pro-Palestine student encampments on UK university campuses, police crackdowns and mass arrests of student activists have become widespread.

"We're back bitches," read a banner hung up by the Columbia University Students for Justice in Palestine on Saturday. The group that helped spark the "student intifada" on university campuses worldwide to end the genocide in Gaza returned for alumni weekend and made it clear that they had no intention of backing down.
