1 Introduction Functionally gradient materials (FGMs) are an iteration of composites that aims to eliminate the sharp transition interface in a simple A–B material pair.[1] The purpose of the gradient structure is to reduce potential mismatch of material properties, such as thermal expansion coefficient, when joining dissimilar or incompatible materials directly together.
