Discussion In the present study, we conducted a miRNA microarray analysis of gingival tissue for patients with periodontitis versus healthy tissue and further validated it in independent validation sets. We identified a panel of potential novel biomarker candidates with application in periodontal disease [8,13], with implications in dental implantation for these patients.
