The superpowers of the naked mole-rat The naked mole-rat (NMR; Heterocephalus glaber) is a subterranean rodent native to the arid regions of Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia [1]. The NMR is the longest-lived rodent, with documented lifespans exceeding 37 years [2]. This makes the NMR one of the longest-lived mammals relative to body size [3]. Like bees or ants, NMRs live in eusocial colonies, which is extraordinarily rare among mammals.
