The Nigeria Fiscal Policy Reform Review Conundrum: After the Governors’ Proposal.
Olamide Eyinla · Follow 3 min read · -- In recent months, many Nigerians have taken on the role of armchair fiscal policy experts, weighing in on complex issues with varying degrees of insight. This growing interest comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s establishment of a committee to review the Nigerian fiscal landscape. Predictably, the process has highlighted entrenched interests across the country.
Striving towards the essence of the free market
By Olamide Eyinla There has been an argument between those who support the ruling party or government and those who do not, about the competence of government. Like we all hate to agree, we have two tiers of government - the federal and the state (as we know that local governments are extensions of states). The question of the incompetence of government thereof does not begin or end with the Federal Government.
Leveraging Technology For the Efficiency of Nigeria’s Electoral System, By Inyene Ibanga
The electronic voting system, also called e-voting, allows for the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) placed in polling stations to facilitate the process of ballot casting and counting. E-voting utilises either the remote or non-remote system and all tabulations of election results are automated. Technology as the most pervasive human phenomenon has disrupted and transformed our daily behaviour – how we play, communicate and conduct business transactions.
Nigeria: Change Models and Options (2), By M.J. Balogun
In contrast to the limited focus of restructuring, systemic reform proceeds from the underlying assumption that a system is never “suddenly” corrupt, incompetent or broken, but must have taken its time to acquire, perfect, entrench, and implicitly legitimise, or at least, condone, bad habits.
Ten-and-a-Half Reasons Why Nigeria's 2021 Budget Should Be Trashed, By 'Tope Fasua
Overall, our budget does not focus on the Nigerian people. That is the problem. Like our police, our budget is focused on our elites and their usual enjoyments. It is something to be shared amongst them, in the hope that perhaps some crumbs will drop off their table to the poor masses. The budget is a tragedy. To compound our woes, the budget is deliberately darkened in different important areas, papered over and made opaque where it should be transparent.

Nigeria: Striving Towards the Essence of the Free Market, By Olamide Eyinla
Time has shown us that the free market provides the best outcomes, with periodic interventions from the government to adjust the market, where need be, when acting as the “unseen hand”. If this hand is seen, it takes away the confidence that the market needs to show for more players to trust it. There has been an argument between those who support the ruling party or government and those who do not, about the competence of government.
Our Poor, Between the World Bank and a Softening Naira, By Uddin Ifeanyi
Premium Times August 24, 2020 Our Poor, Between the World Bank and a Softening Naira, By Uddin Ifeanyi2020-08-24T08:03:34+00:00 Columns, Economy, Ifeanyi Uddin Now that it is official ― the World Bank is dragging its foot on Nigeria’s request for a bailout loan because Nigeria is balking at implementing reforms, especially to its exchange rate regime ― we do well to consider both alternatives. Posed as an “either or” problem, it really doesn’t make that much sense.

Premium Times August 24, 2020 Overcoming Nigeria’s Huge Housing Deficit, By Olamide Eyinla2020-08-24T04:04:17+00:00 In order to increase the supply of housing in Nigeria, we need to equally increase demand. The biggest factor in increasing the demand for housing is through the availability of funds to the buyer.
Opinion: Can Nigeria actually spend her way out of this recession? - YNaija
It is no longer news that Nigeria’s economy has slid into a recession. By definition, recession is a period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced, generally identified by a fall in GDP in two successive quarters. What this means is that either aspects or all sectors of the economy has taken a decline in productivity.
Opinion: Who parallel market epp? - YNaija
The main topic today in Nigeria is the value of the Naira. Sometime in June 2016, the Naira was floated to reflect its true value as the government ran out of resources to maintain her defence of the artificial value of the naira. Ceteris paribus, this decision would lead to the eventual closure of the parallel market. Sadly, this aspiration remains an aspiration and does not look like it would be actualized any time soon.
