1. Introduction Share repurchases have become a growingly popular activity in recent years for public companies to allocate surplus cash generated from company operations. A share repurchase occurs when a public company’s management buys back previously sold shares. Companies can purchase shares directly from the stock market or give shareholders the right to tender shares to the company (Adhikari and Agrawal 2018; Stephens and Weisbach 1998).
