Thankfully, no one had to stay up until 4am to learn the results of Leicestershire's local elections this week. The count took place today - Friday 2 May - and all results were in by 3:31pm. Let's start in Coalville, where the Gazette team has been on the ground all day, tracking down candidates and eagerly waiting for the outcome that will determine who runs Leicestershire County Council come Monday morning.

DEPUTY Lib Dem leader Daisy Cooper MP rallied the troops today (15 April) during a visit to Burbage Common, a month before battling the County Council election. She addressed party supporters at Burbage Common, which she hailed “a beautiful community facility”, and praised local Lib Dems for “fiercely” protecting it for future generations, in reference to the controversial Rail Freight Interchange proposal being rejected.

ARMED POLICE activity was spotted on a residential Hinckley street on Wednesday afternoon (10 April). The incident took place shortly after 2pm, when officers reportedly attended a house on Druid Street. Students enjoying their lunch in the courtyard near the Atkins Building were asked to move away and head back inside of the campus while officers cordoned the area off. According to an eyewitness, a man was arrested at the scene shortly after.
