The Uzbekistan team demonstrated its superiority throughout the tournament with an impressive series of victories. They overpowered South Africa (12-0), Luxembourg (12-1), Turkmenistan (8-2), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (11-3). The decisive match against Thailand proved to be the ultimate test, as Uzbekistan emerged victorious with a narrow 3-2 win. This was not the first encounter between Uzbekistan and Thailand at the junior level.
On the same weekend the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs was being played in North America, a different hockey game featuring NHL talent was taking place in a large parking lot on the streets of Nairobi, Kenya. Twenty-four-year-old Calgary Flames defenceman Oliver Kylington and 39-year-old Johnny Oduya, who played 850 games in the NHL from 2006-18, were in the East African country playing roller hockey with locals and the Kenya Ice Lions, the nation’s only team playing organized hockey.
CALGARY — Oliver Kylington had his first NHL goal and helped set-up the game-winner as the Calgary Flames grabbed first place in the Western Conference with a 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. The decisive goal came from Garnet Hathaway, who broke a 2-2 tie at 6:03 of the third period, neatly deflecting in Matthew Tkachuk's point shot. Kylington, a 21-year-old rookie defenceman, had the second assist.
