UHL is proud to have been included in the Sunday Times’ top 100 UK apprenticeship providers list, for the second year running. The Trust is named in the 2026 list, which celebrates organisations that demonstrate excellence in apprenticeship recruitment, training, diversity and completion outcomes. Heart Link donation provides new cryoablation console to enhance cardiac care for children
An amazing £75,000 donation from Heart Link has funded a new cryoablation console for the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre (EMCHC). The equipment will help the paediatric electrophysiology team at the EMCHC to treat selected children and young people with abnormal heart rhythms – including supraventricular tachycardia, also known as SVT. SVT is a condition where the heart suddenly beats much faster than normal.

New gamma camera installed to strengthen the future of nuclear medicine at UHL
A new gamma camera has been installed at the Glenfield Hospital, as part of an ongoing project to improve nuclear medicine services at UHL. The new GE HealthCare Aurora SPECT/CT camera will help doctors to assess the function of their patients’ organs, combining this with a structural scan. It will increase the capacity of UHL’s nuclear medicine service, which currently sees around 5,000 patients annually, adding up to 1,000 more appointments per year.

Letter from Florence Nightingale goes on display on International Nurses’ Day
A letter sent by Florence Nightingale forms the centrepiece of an exhibition on the history of nursing in Leicester, which opened on International Nurses’ Day. The letter is displayed at UHL’s Creative Health and Heritage Centre, at the Glenfield Hospital, alongside other archive materials held within the Trust’s rich collection of materials, including historic uniforms, photographs and medical instruments. The exhibition will be available to see on Fridays throughout the summer, from 11am to 4pm.

New equipment will support pre-term babies on UHL’s neonatal units
Families of babies who were cared for at UHL’s neonatal units (NNU) have helped to raise funds for new developmental positioning equipment, to support our tiniest patients. Thanks to a £7,000 donation from generous supporters of Leicester Hospitals Charity, each cot at the units at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Leicester General Hospital has been supplied with a new positioning kit.
