Nueces County names new tax assessor-collector

July 29, 2026, 10:20 a.m. CT The Nueces County Commissioners Court named Krista Champine as the county's new tax assessor-collector on July 29. Current Tax Assessor-Collector Kevin Kieschnick announced his resignation in July to pursue a private sector job. In his resignation letter, Kieschnick recommended Champine as his replacement. Champine is currently director of property tax and voter registration in the tax assessor-collector office.

$12 or $20? Beach parking fees could increase for 2027

July 28, 2026, 4:00 p.m. CT The Corpus Christi City Council agreed to increase the annual beach parking fee from $12 to $20 starting in 2027, a change that won't be final until it is approved by Port Aransas, Nueces County and the Texas General Land Office. Corpus Christi, Port Aransas and Nueces County have long cooperated to charge the same beach fee across Mustang and North Padre islands, splitting proceeds to pay for beach maintenance.
