Have you ever used a typewriter?
I always loved to write by hand. The feel of the pen on paper, the scratching of ink across the page--it was all so fulfilling. But as my creativity grew, so did the volume of essays. So I learned to type quickly on the keyboard and now use a laptop.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I am a digital worker. I don't have a physical office and I never see my colleagues in person. We work together online, sharing files and ideas through the miracle of the Internet.Sometimes I find it difficult to adjust to all this virtual interaction, but more and more often I'm resorting to the help of the Internet and its possibilities. For example, I use a day planner for notes or a list of tasks, but that's becoming less common as everything goes digital.
Why did you become a journalist?
I am a writer. Words are my lifeblood, and I believe in the power they have to change people's lives for the better. Sometimes a text can warm the soul better than hot tea, and sometimes it can break the heart. It is in this crushing and soft power that I find my calling.I know that words can be wielded like weapons, but they can also be used to build up and heal. This is what drives me to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) every day. I hope that my words will touch someone's heart and help them see the world in a new way.
