A Varsity investigation reveals the wide funding disparities between college choirs in Cambridge The mixed-gender St John’s Voices (SJV) was axed last year despite the College budgeting nearly £1 million for its male-dominated choir, Varsity can reveal. In the 2023-24 academic year, St John’s College spent £972,288 on its College Choir (SJCC). By contrast, the recently disbanded SJV received only £48,516.

Both Trinity and Sidney Sussex awarded one of their students a travel grant worth over £5,000, Varsity can reveal. In the 2023-24 academic year, the largest individual travel grant Trinity College awarded was worth £5,160. During the same year, Sidney Sussex College awarded an individual grant worth £5,250. These findings come after an investigation by Varsity into grants awarded by colleges to support student travel.

Nineteenth-century page proofs of The Jungle Book, a collection of stories by Rudyard Kipling, have been allocated to the Cambridge University Library. Page proofs are the final stage of an author’s engagement with a text before it goes to print. The proofs of Kipling’s book, which was published in 1894, were previously held by the estate of the late Rosemary Watt, who initially received them from the Victorian literary agent A.P. Watt.
