1 Introduction Uterine leiomyomas, also known as fibroids, are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive tract. They arise from monoclonal proliferation of myometrial smooth muscle cells under the influence of hormonal factors, particularly estrogen and progesterone, together with genetic susceptibility and growth factor signaling pathways, and are associated with heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, anemia, infertility, and urinary symptoms [1, 2].
