Why finding IPO-ready CFOs is Scale-up Nation’s biggest challenge for 2020 When we started Aleph in the summer of 2013, we fretted a lot about the global talent shortage and, specifically, the talent shortage in Israel. The ongoing challenge of finding engineers, data scientists and product leaders to meet our mission of building global-scale companies and brands out of Israel was daunting.

The conversation about the future of work is stuck. The themes have focused on how to retain workers and accommodate for hot desks, and something called the gig economy. Meanwhile, a bright red line has been drawn between freelancers and gig workers. Freelancing is typically seen as higher-end work requiring more refined and online skills, while gig work is expected to be physical work paid per service or hour.
