Tata Consultancy Services is building a team of up to 8,900 forward-deployed engineers and evaluating acquisitions in artificial intelligence, data security and cybersecurity, two company executives said, as India’s largest IT services firm bets that AI will create new business rather than undermine its outsourcing model. The forward-deployed engineer group would represent 1% to 1.5% of TCS’s global workforce based on its end-June headcount, chief executive K Krithivasan said.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is preparing to launch an artificial intelligence avatar of himself, a rare step by a sitting head of government that highlights the growing use of AI-generated doubles in politics and business. The avatar, called PMX AI, is a reference to Anwar’s position as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister. It was developed by Malaysian digital infrastructure firm Zetrix AI Bhd.

Activists with the group Stop the AI Race marched between the San Francisco offices of OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind on Saturday, the movement’s second demonstration in four months, renewing a demand that the three companies’ chief executives publicly commit to pausing frontier AI development if competitors do the same.
