Fast-rising Nigerian singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanya_music has tragically died after being bitten by a cobra inside her residence in Abuja. The young vocalist was a well-known chorister within the Abuja music and choral community. Shr reportedly passed away on Saturday, 31 January. This follows the snake bite, which occurred in her room. Videos circulating on social media show a snake catcher holding a cobra said to have been found inside the late singer’s room.

Legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has posthumously made history as the first African artist to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy. The late Nigerian music icon was honoured at the 2026 Grammy Special Merit Awards. It held in Los Angeles on Saturday, 31 January. This is a day before the main Grammy Awards ceremony. Also, the prestigious award was accepted on Fela’s behalf by his children — Yeni, Kunle, Shalewa and Femi Kuti .

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has revealed that he is hesitant to return to cinema releases unless the current demands of film promotion are reconsidered. Speaking at the Lagos Business of Film Summit, Kunle Afolayan lamented the physical and mental toll that aggressive promotional strategies take on filmmakers. Also, he describes the process as unsustainable.
