Rory McIlroy secured a share of the early lead following an opening round of 65 at the Scottish Open held at the Renaissance Club. Beginning his round from the 10th tee, the 2023 champion's opening nine holes proved inconsistent, bookended by bogeys but featuring three birdies to reach the turn at one under par. The lengthy 601-yard first hole suited his game perfectly, as a mammoth 352-yard drive set up a four-iron approach to within 19 feet, which he converted for eagle.

Paul Galvin identifies one area Kerry must improve on from tense Tyrone semi-final win

As a player, Paul Galvin had more than his fair share of run-ins with Tyrone teams. As a spectator, he thinks Kerry's four-point quarter-final win over the Red Hands in Croke Park was “too close for comfort” and thinks the defending champions need to be on their game to avoid losing out to an in-form Dublin side in Sunday's semi-final. Offaly are on the lookout for a new football manager after Mickey Harte and Declan Kelly stepped down after two years in charge. During their first season, the Faithful won Division Three and were pipped by eventual winners Kildare at the quarter-final stage of the Tailteann Cup. Offaly lost their Division Two status in the spring, but pulled off a stunning second round win over tournament favourites down.
