Commentary: Charging parents for foster care hurts New York families
Parents whose children are in foster care face an uphill battle as they work to bring their children home — practically, emotionally and financially. That could change for New York families if legislators act now. For the past 40 years, federal law has encouraged child welfare and child support enforcement agencies to work together to recover the cost of foster care from children’s parents. Parents whose children are placed in foster care are blindsided by these bills.
Key Drivers for IT Modernization in State and Local Government
Government agencies have typically lagged slightly behind other sectors when it comes to technology adoption, but it’s clear that IT modernization has become a top concern for state and local governments. The National Association of State CIOs lists both legacy modernization and IT consolidation/optimization among state CIOs’ top 10 priorities for this year. Agencies must contend with budget constraints, organizational complexity and staffing issues when looking to modernize IT systems.
How Data Center Optimization Helps State and Local Agencies Improve Services
The modernization of legacy IT infrastructure is a top priority for state and local government agencies. Leaders at the local, county and state levels are looking to enhance, renovate and replace their legacy infrastructure and applications, with the goal of streamlining their business processes and improving the services they provide to citizens.
State and Local Agencies Must Build a Business Case for IT Infrastructure Choices
In this year’s CompTIA Public Technology Institute State of City and County IT National Survey report, 69 percent of cities and counties reported moving on-premises IT resources into private clouds.
Whiskers Tails: Major fundraiser on horizon for pet rescue
The Precious Paws Rescue Cats’ Meow Scramble is our major fundraiser, and the support of our community is much appreciated and needed. As an all-volunteer pet rescue charity, the monies raised are used to help us provide care for our rescued pets. The kitten season is just around the corner and these babies along with their moms will need a lot of TLC as well as veterinary care. As a Florida resident for these past 20-plus years, I am aware that golf is a primary sport for our population.
States Embraced Digital Transformation During Pandemic Response
Dec 14 2022 Management During lockdowns, states made tech investments that still pay dividends. State governments made many investments during the pandemic lockdown that are still paying dividends, fueling continued digital transformation efforts. The National Association of State Technology Directors highlights many of these successful efforts in a report recapping 2021 investments made by state IT agencies.
How State and Local Governments Can Reduce Employee Attrition
Waves of Americans began leaving their jobs last year in the midst of the “Great Resignation,” and local government workers were among those who left or considered leaving. Many local government employees were fatigued by the pandemic and sought better pay and benefits. In the past two years, more people left their jobs in state and local government than ever before, leaving many agencies understaffed and without qualified replacements, according to the Rockefeller Institute of Government.
Whiskers/Tails: Pet parents can form special bond with cats, dogs
Some abandoned pet are luckier than others; they are found, rescued and adopted by loving families. The same predicament is evident in our world today. While homeless pets are a people problem and require the intervention of animal lovers; the people problem demands a much more professional and educated people intervention.
Whiskers/Tails: Getting ready to bring home a new fur baby
You made the decision. A new furry family member has arrived. How is the settling in process going? Remember, for some animals they have never known a loving relationship and they need time to adjust and learn to trust their human family and learn to interact with the four-footed family residents. There are distinct differences between cats and dogs when arriving at their new home. Some things to consider: Are there other pets, children or special circumstances?
After Pandemic Challenges, CIOs See Enhanced Authorities and Greater Responsibilities
Matt Fraser was CIO of the New York City Police Department until January 2022. When New York City Mayor Eric Adams took office, he promoted Fraser to CTO of the city, also making him head of a refreshed agency called the NYC Mayor’s Office of Technology and Innovation, formerly the New York City Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications (DoITT). The previous CTO held more of an advisory role in the city’s administration, but Adams sought a CTO with more authority.
Whiskers/Tails: It's kitten season once again
It is officially spring, along with the predictable weather changes and Precious Paws Rescue still has several unpredictable issues. We have rented a new facility at 3768 W. Gulf-to-Lake Highway in Lecanto. Renovations have started and, hope-fully, we will be able to move in by the beginning of May. It is also kitten season with daily phone requests to take in litters, some with the mom and several others requiring bottle-feeding as the mom is missing.
J.P. Guinane's home stands silent but his legacy lives on
Bookmark(0) Please login to bookmark No account yet? Register The unexpected passing last autumn of J.P. Guinane cast a gloom over Kilkishen and surrounding countryside. By Pat O’Brien J.P. was held in high esteem in Kilkishen and O’Callaghans Mills due to his involvement with many organisations, dating back to the bygone era of the marquees and Muintir na Tíre. A farmer, block-layer, hurler, singer and historian, that was J.P. all in one.
The Benefits of a Single Digital Identity for Government Services
If you’ve attended a National Association of State Chief Information Officers conference over the past year or two, you’ve likely heard a concept bandied about as the holy grail of government technology: a single digital identity for citizens to access and receive state government services. This is about more than simply having one username and password to access all digital government services.
Cover Reveal: The One By Claire Frost @FabFrosty #TheOne
I literally cannot let this cover reveal pass me by without sharing here on Hayley Reviews. Claire Frost has produced two very different yet all encompassing reads and today she has unveiled the cover of her next novel which won’t hit shelves until next year, but my oh my I’m already fully invested. As always I will wet your appetite with the blurb. I will warn you as the blurb in itself made me gasp. Blurb: What happens when you lose the love of your life just three months after you meet him?
Anonymous reporting takes toll on foster parents, youth
Each year, New York State receives thousands of reports of suspected child abuse from callers who do not provide their names or contact information. Each year, child protective services launch investigations of families — many of whom are families of color — in response to these anonymous reports. And each year, as a result of these anonymous reports, thousands of families’ lives are subjected to government scrutiny with the frightening prospect that they could lose custody of their children.
Musings: Back in the game
My love of aviation and interest in math and science as a teenager led to the recommendation to become an aeronautical engineer. After a degree from Ohio State University and a private pilot certificate along the way, a flight test job was the goal. The Navy offered a job with a bonus of flying in jets as well. Patuxent River in Maryland was the home of the Naval Air Test Center and flight-testing aircraft on aircraft carrier catapults and arrested landing systems.
How To Pleasure Yourself Like A Gentleman
When making love to a woman, it is important to behave like a gentleman. The same rules apply when making love to yourself. Take it slow. A gentleman mustn’t rush right into sex with himself, as this would be brutish and uncouth. A gentleman must first woo his penis. Display common courtesy. Politeness is key. A gentleman always tips his hat before lowering his pants. Avoid discussing politics or religion.
A Gentleman’s Guide To Purchasing Illegal Drugs
When purchasing consumer products, it is imperative to maintain certain societal standards. The same rules apply when procuring that good shit. First, determine which manner of illicit drug you wish to imbibe by hiring a peasant boy to try every narcotic, stimulant, and psychotropic on the market. Carefully observe each substance’s effect on the young street urchin - whichever puts him in the gayest mood, and does not kill him, is the drug for you.
An audit likely never to happen
I see the county is auditing the sheriff’s department’s 287(g) program. No one wants county funds wasted, so I’m fine with making sure that’s the case. However, when county officials are done with the 287(g) program, maybe they will take the time to audit the cost to the county taxpayers of illegal immigration on schools, health care, social services, crime, etc. Any person who takes the time to read unbiased data on that topic knows these costs far exceed the cost of the 287(g) program.
