NINE PEOPLE WILL stand trial in the Czech Republic on charges of forcing young women to act in pornography films after luring them with modelling offers, prosecutors said today. The nine people are all associated with the Czech Casting pornography label and face up to 12 years in prison on human trafficking charges, Prague city prosecutor’s office spokesman Ales Cimbala told news agency AFP.

EUROPE’S MOST SEVERE heatwave ever has broken temperature records in eastern parts of the continent and forced Ukraine to order power cuts to cope yesterday. The extreme heat, which hit Western Europe last week, has set records in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany as it moved east in recent days. According to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, Slovakia registered a new record temperature of 41C in Turňa nad Bodvou in the southeast yesterday.

MOROCCO DEFEATED THE Netherlands in a penalty shootout to advance to the last 16 of the World Cup on Monday after a thrilling battle in Monterrey finished 1-1 after extra-time. Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made the crucial save to block the Netherlands’ fifth penalty from Crysencio Summerville before striker Ismael Saibari stepped up to blast home the winning spot kick that sealed a 3-2 shootout win. The victory sends Morocco into a last 16 clash with Canada in Houston on Saturday.
