California Battery Fires: Mitigating Commercial Risks in BESS Transactions | JD Supra
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are an essential component of California’s leading energy transition strategy, enabling the state to integrate renewable energy production, stabilize the grid and ensure a reliable energy supply. California now hosts over 13 GW of installed BESS capacity—more than 20% of its peak demand—and is projected to contract over 52 GW by 2045.
California's Resource Adequacy Reforms Are Here | JD Supra
The California Public Utilities Commission has reformed its Resource Adequacy program in an effort to ensure a reliable power supply statewide. California Clarifies Timelines for Mid-Term Reliability Procurement Mandates of Renewables and Storage | JD Supra
The California Public Utilities Commission has clarified that load-serving entities must have projects online by June 1 to meet annual renewable or zero-emissions energy targets, but they do not have to include these resources in their June Resource Adequacy supply plans. In 2021, the Commission ordered load-serving entities in the state to procure 11.5 GW of net qualifying capacity from renewable and zero-emission resources. The requirement became known as Mid-Term Reliability procurement.
How reinsurance can enhance governance and growth for life insurers

Consuming Contests: The Effect of Outcome Uncertainty on Spectator Attendance in the Australian Football League*
I Introduction In this paper, we examine whether people prefer to consume contests that have more uncertain outcomes, an argument that the economics literature commonly puts forward to explain the popularity of contest-based forms of entertainment (Rottenberg, 1956; Neale, 1964). To achieve this, we look to professional sports and use injury-induced changes to team line-ups between games as a source of plausibly exogenous variation in contest outcome uncertainty.

Consuming Contests: Outcome Uncertainty and Spectator Demand for Contest-based Entertainment
Author Abstract Contests that are designed to be consumed for entertainment by non-contestants are a fixture of economic, cultural and political life. In this paper, we examine whether individuals prefer to consume contests that have more uncertain outcomes. We look to professional sports and exploit injury-induced changes to teams' lineups to estimate the effect of outcome uncertainty on spectator demand for contests.
